Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights honours the freedom to subscribe to whatever philosophy you choose, be that religious or not. A debate was held in the Lords on 24th July on ‘International compliance with Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights concerning freedom of belief.’ Several examples of gross intolerance based on religion or belief were cited in the House, including the plight of the non-religious.

Expanding Humanist Youths in Europe
Since the amazing European Humanist Youth Days, the European Working Group has greatly expended. With new contacts in Ireland, Scotland, Croatia, Malta and France, the working group is moving confidently into the new year! Coming February(22nd-23rd) representatives from all over Europe will meet in the Netherlands, for the annual face-to-face meeting.
Malta reverses Vatican concorda
The government of Malta has signed a new agreement with the Vatican that effectively reverses a previous concordat, which gave the church's ecclesiastical tribunal precedence over the civil courts in annulment cases.
In the past, in a separation case, the civil courts could not take on the case if it had already been initiated in the ecclesiastical tribunal, while if a case starts in the civil court but either of the couple decided to take it to the ecclesiastical tribunal, the civil case would be halted.

Humanist Confirmations: A Secular Alternative

The aim of the Humanist Confirmation program in Denmark is to empower young people in independent thinking and ethical actions.
This is achieved by helping them to: gain insight into their own experiences, actions and behaviour; reflect and ask critical questions; gain awareness of different points of life; think, respect, tolerate and take responsibility.

The First European Humanist Youth Days
Young Humanists from across Europe came together on the 2nd to the 5th of August 2013 in Brussels, Belgium for the first European Humanist Youth Days (EHYD).The EHYD was supported by deMens.nu, the Belgian Centre for Secular Action, Centre d'ActionLaique, the EACEA program and others, and in partnership with the International Humanist and Ethical Youth Organisation (IHEYO).
Ever since the amazing European Humanist Youth Days, interest in the European Working Group has greatly increased. The event brought together young humanists from all over Europe. IHEYO gained new contacts in: Ireland, Scotland, Croatia, France and Malta. The Working Group’s next meeting is the annual face-to-face meeting, which is happening February (22nd-23rd) in the Netherlands. It is a chance for representatives of Humanist organisations to meet like-minded people from all over Europe. If you attend, you will expand your network as well as IHEYO’s.

Non-Prophet Week: AHS Godless Giving
The National Federation of Atheists, Humanists and Secularists Students Association (AHS), United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland
Non-Prophet Week is a week where irreligious people raise money to aid charitable organizations. The week is held annually by the AHS, and 2013 will mark AHS’s fourth Non-Prophet Week. This year AHS has chosen to endorse the Against Malaria Foundation. The Against Malaria Foundation prevents the contraction of malaria through the distribution of mosquito nets. Each net can be delivered at the total cost of US$5.50; the distribution of mosquito nets prevents suffering in those who otherwise would of caught the disease and boost local economies by keeping people at work rather than off, ill.

Sidmennt's annual Humanist awards
October 29th, 2013 Sidmennt, the Icelandic Ethical Humanist Association honored 2 deserving human beings: the Mayor of Reykjavik, Jon Gnarr, as Humanist of the Year, and Petur Halldorsson with our Education and Science Award for his excellent science radio show "Tilraunaglasid". In the first picture Hope Knutsson, president of Sidmennt is shaking the mayor's hand and giving him part of his award gifts. In the second, Hope is giving Petur his award gifts.

Humanist youth activity in Germany
In between all sport activities, while the world was looking into the direction of London to the Olympic Games, many other small events happened around the globe. Little things making less sound, little things which are not of interest to almost everyone, but little things which are important for us, for social relations, for international communication, for letting us taking part in global matters.
