YHN Secular Leadership Training

The annual youth leadership training organised for  newly appointed/elected secondary schools' prefects in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria organised by the Young Humanistas Network, Nigeria, and supported by the Human Etisk Forbund (Oslo Section), Norway took place on 26 June, 2009 at the Students' Chambers, S.U.B., Ibadan.

This is the fourth in the series of the novel project which was started in 2005. The first edition was supported by the Oxfam Youth Parliament through our partner organisation, the Volunteer Initiatives-Nigeria (Coordinated by Olusegun Olowu). The goal of the project is to promote the tenets of secularism and responsive leadership, as well as inculcate the idea of active citizenship into the young lads and lasses.

The theme of this year's edition was "Leaders as Servants and Protectors of all Beliefs". Ten schools participated in the programme with about 89 pupils.

We want to thank the Board of the HEF, Oslo section, Norway for their financial support towards the success of the programme. And to our trainers and volunteers, pupils and the principals of schools that participated, we say "E see pupo!".
